Too Good to be True . . .

Go here.

Could it really be? Could there really be a new Smashing Pumpkins album in the works? That would . . . that would blow my mind. Now, i know what the naysayers out there are saying (and i'm looking at you here, PJ): the last albums sucked, and let's not even talk about Billy Corgan's solo album, so we have every reason to believe that a new album would suck aswell. Now, that's a perfectly worthy statement. However, the Zwan album was decent, so it's not 100% sure that this new album would suck. In addition, a new album would mean a new tour, and that would mean the chance to see them live for the fourth, fifth, sixth time. And that would be awesome.

The only thing that keeps me from being completely super-ultra pumped about this is that guitarist James Iha hasn't signed on yet. Personally, i think that Iha's contribution to the band has been understated. Don't get me wrong, in most respect the Smashing Pumpkins was "The Billy Corgan Show," however, Iha contributed a lot. Not the least of which was co-writing two of my favorite songs: Mayonaise and Soma. In addition, Iha's presence on stage was unmistakable. He was, pretty much, the shit, and the Pumpkins need him back.

As far as the uncertainty of D'arcy's return, i'd like to see her back, but i wouldn't be deeply sorrowful if she didn't return. I've only seen the original line-up once out of the three times i've seen the band (the first time i saw them was during the period in which drummer Jimmy Chamberlain had been kicked out, and the third time i saw them was after D'arcy had left) and it was the best show i've ever seen, but i wonder if that's due to factors other than D'arcy. Still, it would be awesome to see the original four Pumpkins back.

Times are good.
